March 09, 2023

Zoom Webinar

Mr. Christian Egenhofer, Associate Senior Research Fellow of the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels and Senior Research Associate of the School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute in Florence, was invited to speak on the above topic to KKC member corporations. About 110 people from member companies participated.

Mr. Egenhofer gave a lecture based on his experience of over 20 years in EU environmental policy. He explained that the EU overcame this winter’s energy crisis by solidarity, saving 20% of natural gas across the EU. He also pointed out the growing awareness that a switch to renewable energy is inevitable. On the other hand, in addition to the current economic recession and the hassle of obtaining permits and licenses for renewable energy investment, there are issues such as securing backup power sources. He stated that it is necessary to build a cooperative relationship in order to promote the stable progress of hydrogen projects.

During the Q&A session, Mr. Egenhofer was asked about changes in individual lifestyles due to the energy crisis and he responded that in order to make the current temporary changes permanent, it is necessary to create rules such as compensation.
