Online Meeting Current Situation and Challenges for Rebuilding a Free and Open Global Economic Order Geoffrey Gertz, The Brookings Institution

August 26, 2020

Zoom Webinar

Dr. Geoffrey Gertz, Fellow of the Global Economy and Development Program at The Brookings Institution, was invited to speak to KKC member corporations in an online meeting. He stated that the tide of turning away from the existing global economic order is accelerating while the COVID-19 crisis complicates the issues of globalization and US-China conflict intensifies. He also mentioned that the global economic order will turn away from principle-based universalism symbolized by large institutions like the WTO, World Bank and IMF and shift towards the “coalitions of the willing” approach, symbolized by such institutions as CPTPP, AIIB and OECD. Global governance will become more hybrid, complex and fluid.
